In October 2020, fueled by pandemic boredom, I tried stand-up in St. Louis for the first time. I had no idea that 5 years later I’d have my own stand-up show in LA, Permission Slip, have headlined at Washington University in St. Louis, and performed at some of the biggest clubs in Southern California - including Haha Comedy Club and in my apartment for my roommate.
At Washington University in St. Louis, my alma mater, the South Asian Association puts on an annual show for Diwali. The Diwali show includes a showcase of various styles of Indian dance, song, fashion, and a 30 minute comedic play about South Asian life at WashU called “Skit”. In 2022, Skit was written and directed by none other than THE Jaya Tewari. It follows a group of students who take over the empty Sigma Chi frat house to turn it into a South Asian cultural house called “Sigma Chai” and recieved a raving review in the WashU newspaper, stating ““Sigma Chai”, while often hilarious, underscored the need for a strong sense of South Asian community…The performance maintained the poignancy of the search for cultural belonging and showcased astute comical writing, with audience members laughing until the skit reached what is any WashU student’s ultimate resolution: graduation.” My show was performed to 3 sold-out crowds of 750 people each - here's the recording from opening night!
I made these in college and am still pretty proud of them. Before I got banned on TikTok (more on that in a second), they got over 500k views on the app.
I miss being famous. During 2021, I had 22k followers, 2.9 million likes, and 20 million views on TikTok - only to be banned for being under 13 years old one fateful day in June 2022. Clips of my standup ammassed over 250k views, and my biggest video had 14 million views. I reposted that video on my new account (which does not have nearly the same clout) and it got 6 million views. My life is very hard. Check out some of my former bangers below.
